- 226My Home DistrictThe name of my townland is Tykillen.
It is situated in the parish of Crossabeg in the Barony of Shilmalier East.
There are eleven families in my district.
The number of people residing in Tykillen amount to about forty.
The most common family name is "Butler".
Most of the houses are thatched, three are slated.
There are four old people in the district, they do not know Irish and they do not tell stories.
There are five old ruins of houses in my district.
There are two houses called the Pond-field houses which were there in ninety-eight, and the people who lived there were thrown out by the yoes.
One of the descendants of the people who lived there remains here still. His name is James Carroll of Tykillen.
People emigrated from this district in former years for want of work.
Some parts of the land are boggy, more parts hilly, and more parts good.
There are lots of valleys around this district.
There are many woods growing around here also.
