The Wreck of the 'Liza'
About a century ago a barque or a sailing ship was sighted off our coast. It was a Christmas Eve, and all the male population went down to the shore. It was blowing a terrific gale and the sea was rolling mountains high. The local coast guards got two lines to her.
But the captain and crew both seemed to be ignorant of the use of this saving device.
The crew used to run along the ropes till the sea swept them into the sea. By this time all the passengers were lost, though the boat was drifting almost on to the shore.(continues on next page)- Informant
