    just as we reached the threshold of the old lady's cottage by the sea - right over the spot where the mermaid had been seen - we will go in and again can hear the story from the old lady herself -
    We went in - but were badly disappointed to learn that the old lady was away at a friend's place several miles that day. The coast round that particular part of Co Cork was certainly a very inviting place for a mermaid to perch and as we gave a farewell look towards the spot on those wild rocks where the maid had once Combed her flowing locks, with her long graceful fingers, we asked ourselves if, after all the deeps harbour as did not have some strange beings + secrets all its own
