the rest of the way down to the Holy Well.
    ____________
Long ago people used to go down to the well and wash clothes in it. They used to wash their clothes with their feet. One day a woman went down to wash clothes. She put the clothes in the water but while she was washing them her feet stuck to them, and the people had to go and beg Saint Aidan to relieve her. St Aidan did it, but no one ever washed in it again.
One day a man went to the well for water and he brought the water home and put it in the kettle but the water would not boil and he had to bring back the water.
The water would not boil because three golden fishes were in it.
