- Bread Oatmeal bread used to be made long ago. It was made of oaten meal and buttermilk. Long ago people used to bake on a griddle. This was called griddle bread.
Sometimes the people got eight or nine potatoes. Then they got a grater and they grated them very fine. They put them in a basin and the water was left on top and the starch was left below. They drained off the water then and the starch remained. Then they kneaded this and baked it on the griddle. This was called boxty or stampy.- Collector
