St Anthony's Fire: Rubbing the affected parts with three drops of a black cat's blood.
    Coughs and colds:
    1. Buttermilk scalded with sugar and butter added and sometimes half a glass of whiskey.
    2. Flax seed boiled and strained, then add sugar candy and lemon juice and a little liqourice if preferred.
    3. Mullein tea made by boiling the leaves of the mullein plant in new milk, straining and sweetening to taste. This drunk while warm was a great cure long ago. Balm-tea was used in same way.
    4. Camomile tea was also used for colds. This was made by steeping the flowerheads in boiling water for some time then sweeting the juice to taste. The camomile tea taken at bed-time was supposed to keep nightmare- or as the old people called it "the old Hag"- away.
Neuralgia: A little bag of camomile flowers
