- Basket - making:
A man named Paddy Caulfield who lives in Derrica makes baskets. He sticks sally rods into the ground in a ring. He makes this ring whatever size he wants the basket to be. He weaves the lower part of the rods in and out, and then he bends the top over to the other side.
Gates:
Iron gates are made in the forges in Ferbane, by Tim Egan and John Walsh. Jimmy Mc Intyre makes wooden gates.
Brick - making:
Brickmaking is carried on in Gallen. The clay is got in the bog. It is of a bluish - grey colour. This clay is mixed with water; then it is put into shapes which are something like a box with no bottom in it. When these are being carried, they are held on their so as to prevent the newly - made brick from falling out. The bricks are left to dry in the sun.
