- There is a place outside Tullamore called Horseleap. It is so called because of the tradition that the Anglo Norman, Hugh De Lacy leaped his horse over the drawbridge of a castle in that district when he was being pursued by some Irish chieftains.

- During Cromwells time in Ireland he did a lot of harm such as taking castles and big places by fighting for them. He came to Ballaghmore Castle during his travels and he began a siege on it. When Mr Ely the owner of the castle refused to hand it over, Cromwells men surrouned the castle and started a hard fight. After a time both parties called(continues on next page)
