where his wife and children were. They were nearly dead with fright. However, John stayed in the kitchen all night, until six o'clock next morning. Everynight for a fortnight old John came back to the house. His son's turf began to disappear and each night they could see old John putting some of it sack and taking it away. Someone seemed to be milking the cows in the field because there was a noticeable shortage of milk. Jim could not make out how this could be. Then the police were brought to guard the cows. The cows were still milked. The police could hear the cows being milked but could see nobody. Then the cows were locked into the house. The people could still hear them being milked, and it was old John who was doing it all. At last the priest was brought. The priest locked old John into the room in which he had died and ordered the room to be kept closed forever. So old John did no more harm nor was the door ever opened until the old room fell and is now only a ruin. His ghost appeared only about 30 years ago.
