- There are stories about 1846-47 The potatoes got rotten and they had nothing to eat. They had them in pits where they got bad. People died in the ditches and in fields with the hunger. In Templeudigan a man who had lots of potatoes would not give one to any body. He kept them by the fences and he used to say they would be very dear. All the potatoes rotted. A man named Redmond of Waterford got two boats of yellow meal and gave a half pound to each person. He sent it to a shop and they used to get it every day
