    Up to the time of the Land League days there was a number of landlords in Ireland in whose power was the happiness or destruction of the rural population of the country. Of course these landlords were all planters who were brought from England and got estates of the best land at the expense of the Irish people. This land should not be given to such men as they had no right to it. In most cases they were very cruel. When the people improved the land the rent was raised. If the people did not do as the landlord
