- (continued from previous page)Furze Bog" "The Pond Field" is situated beside the Rectory and got its name because long ago a pond existed in it, and every winter should it rain heavily the pond would rise again and cover a portion of land. The land in which the pond lied is always boggy and muddy.
The "Commons" derived its name from being the most common field around this townland for grazing cattle mostly milch cows, it is a big field and it is said that over thirty milch cows used to graze in it, and the were owned by ordinary people around Dunlavin. It is still a common grazing field around.
The "Level Field" derived its name because it is square and has a uniform surface. "Bill's Meadow got its name because a number of years ago a man with the surname "Bill" used to own it, when he died it was called "Bill's Meadow
"The Furze Bog derived its name from being covered with furze blossom in the Spring of the year.
