The celebrated Buck Whaley who won the English Derby with a four year old (only three year olds are eligible to compete) lived in Seasonpark opposite the Protestant Church. He also won a wager of £15,000 that he would go to Jerusalem, play ball on its walls and return in a given time. Hunter O'Reilly of Seaview, Kilpeddar was another famous sportsman of the period and joined in the exploits of Whaley.
