    The customs of the people were quite different to what they are today.

    ground, supplied him with bread, his oats with oatmeal, his cows, with milk and butter and occasionally with meat; for he sometimes killed a beast, salted and dried the meat when he could have "Hung beef" for his dinner, his pigs he also made good use of; his sheep gave him wool and meat.
    The wool was made into yarn, flannel, frieze, etc for his clothing. His bees supplied him with honey, his hens, ducks, geese and turkey's supplied him with a variety of dishes besides bringing him in some money for those he sold. Then he had his fruit - wild and cultivated. He made use of sloes, elderberries, certain herbs besides the
