Got from Joe Baxter, Oakwood, aged 68 years. Potatoes are grown in our farm. There is one acre and a half sown under potatoes each year. Some times we have nearly two acres.
My brother John prepares the ground. The ground is not manured in any way before sowing the potatoes except there was oats in the piece the year before.
The potatoes are all sown in drills except a few ridges. Before you can have drills the ground has to be laboured the year before.
