At home my mother decorates the house with coloured decorations and hooll holly.
Most of the people buy a large blue or red candle and they leave it burning in the kitchen window during the whole of Christmas night. Christmas Eve the hearth gets a special sweeping. The children hang up their stockings at the foot of the bed so that Santa Claus may put their toys in them. In Cavan most of the people stay in their own homes on that day. Dinner is usually served earlier than any other day.St Stephen's Day.
In Cavan on St Stephen's day the boys always dress up in old rags and they wear false faces also. The leader of the group carries a branch of holly with a dead wren lying on the leaves of holly. At each door they dance and play French-fiddles, and they beat on(continues on next page)- Collector
