  1. On St Stephen's Day boys and some grown-up men go from house to house in small parties in this district.
    They are usually dressed in old rags and have blackened faces.
    They carry some musical instruments such as tin whistle a mouth organ or a drum. They dance at the huses and sing a song called the wren sone here it is,
    The wren the wren,
    The king of all birds.
    On St Stephen's Day he was caught in the forge.
    Although he is small his family is great.
    Rise up landlady and give us a treat.
    The treat they ask for is money.
