Hob-lamps are made sometimes by placing an empty spool on top of a large Bovril bottle and drawing a piece of cotton cloth through the hole in the spool. The bottle contains the oil & never leaks. Some farmers place these over the cow's manger, & light them when giving the cows any attention at night. They can be carried from one farm-house to another and do not easily blow out.
