- The lone bush grew at the foot of a field in the townland of Ardkill. The field belonged to my father, John Galligan. It was a white-thorn as all lone bushes are.
Some years ago, while it was still young, my father thought to transplant it. He dug it up and planted it in the garden near his house. It gradually withered and died there , & no trace of it remains there now. Meanwhile, a white-thorn sprang up in exactly the same place. It grew very rapidly and now a "Lone" bush exists there again.
It is now about 10 ft. high and neighbours wonder at the rapid growth it made.- Collector
