There is a story told, that once, a man lived there, called Peter O'Farrell, and one night he went out to see what was the stir, and as he came close to the fort, he heard voices; saying "saddle one for me".
Peter listened to them, and then said "saddle one for me." He was taken into the fort, and put on a horse, and he was told not to open his mouth no matter what would happen, but when the horse jumped the lake, he got such a wonder that he said "whatever breed you come of, it was a good one". He then tried to spur on his horse, but it would not move. When he looked he was riding a "buchalan".
It was the Danes who built these forts for safety in time of war. - There are two fairy forts in our district, 'Smiths Fort', 'Murphys Fort'.
The first is situated in the townland of Mullamagavan, and the other in the townland of Lattyloghan.(continues on next page)- Collector
