- Once upon a time there were three men, and they talked all Irish. They could talk no English except that the first man Patrick could say in English "Three Irish men," and the second could say "for the want of work," and the third could say (for) " the sooner the better."
One day they were coming down the street, and there lay the body of a man after been killed, and they were looking at the dead body when down came two policemen.
One of them said to the first man "who killed this man"?
All the Irishman could say was,
"Three Irishmen"
The policeman asked Irishman No 2
"Why did (they) you kill him"?
