- The materials used for thatching are reeds, rushes, or straw.
The implements used for thatching are a thatching fork, a mallet, and a little rake for fixing the thatch into its place, and the mallet is used for hammering the scallops into the thatch. The scallops are cut at the lake, and then they are left up to season and when you are using them if they are too thick they are split and the ends pointed.
First you pull the straw then you throw water on it and then it is tied up into bundles and then it is ready for use. You thatch a bit and then rake it down. When you are finished thatching you put long scallops across some of the thatch then you twist some little scallops and put them over the long scallops and hammer them into the thatch.- Collector
