    Half doors were a very common thing long ago there is still a couple left. When the children were small it was very handy if you did not want them to go outside you could shut the half door and then they could not get out. Some people had a half door like a gate so that the children could look through.
    Then some people had a wire frame nailed up on the half door so that the chickens could not get into the kitchen.
