  1. There was a great frost in 1870. All the lakes and ponds were frozen. My grandfather Owen Gibney Ballymacad, Oldcastle Co Meath drew timber in a horse and cart accross lake Sheelin from Carrick. The surface of the ice being like broken stones. Lough Ramor was frozen too; men kicked football on it.
