    Fairy Forts
There are a great number of forts in this district. There are six in Dungimmon and one in Clonbockague. They be seen from each other. They are of circular shape. A fort is made up of a height or mound with a ring of bushes around it.
The Danes are supposed to have built them.
Fairy people are supposed to have been living in them long ago.
It is the general belief that the Danes used to signal from one fort to another in time of danger.
There was a river around them, they used to draw up a bridge at night and their enemies would not get at them while they were asleep.
Lights used to be seen going from one fort to another at night.
