- Ghosts were very common in former times. Michael Lynch Dungimmon Mt Nugent Co Cavan, my grand-uncle was one night coming home from his céilidhe and coming through Kilnacrott he looked into the gripe and he saw a boy and girl with no heads on them. He prayed and he thought that all the snow in the world fell before him.
When he went there he saw that there was no snow but the boy and girl had disappeared.
Another night when he was coming near Syl Boylan's Dungimmon a big dog, the size of a calf with a tounge the breadth of you two hands and dragging on the ground, came out of a bush and walked along with him. He went into the nearest house and asked for holy water. He blessed himself and threw it at the dog and he disappeared.
