- (continued from previous page)It is said that every time she appears on the lake some person is drowned. There is no local person connected with the mermaid.
- There is an old castle about two miles from Bailieboro called Hassard's Castle. It is over a hundred years of age. It never was besieged or attacked. There is a tradition connected with this castle. It is said that a young boy from the district went into a field belonging to the castle and cut a branch of a tree. Someone saw him and told the guards, because the public were forbidden to enter the lands belonging to the castle.
The guards told the owner who was a wicked man and ordered that the boy should be hung on the tree he took the branch off. This wicked order was(continues on next page)- Collector
