  1. A Local Song

I'm but a simple country girl to the Mac Fionns I belong,

I'm but a simple country girl
To the Mac Fionns I belong,
I hope you will excuse me
    For anything I pen wrong.
    Unto those gallant Mac Fionns
I hope you'll lend an air,
And come and view the black and blue
For that's the dress they (wo) wear
    II
And when I see them at the play,
My heart is filled with joy,
And something murmurs in my ear
Oh had I been a boy.
While others tremble by my side
I will not mention who,When they see those brave undaunted youths
Dressed in the black and blue.
    III
Once at play not far away
A maid spoke with a frown,
"Said she" my dame, "come change your name"
The Mac Fionns are put down,
"Says I" young maid, your men's astray,
    Indeed then so are you.
