  1. Some years ago there lived in Stramaquerty a woman named Mary Kiernan.
    There nights in succession a fairy appeared to her in a dream and told her that a pot of gold was hidden under a rock beside a lone bush along the Stramaquerty Road. He also told her that it must be searched for by two men and that the rock must be lifted before the cocks crew.
    Accordingly my Grandfather, Bernard Kiernan and Peter Fitzsimons waited up the next night till everyone was gone to bed and, bringing a pic,k spade, and shovel with them began to dig for the pot of gold.
    After much hard work they lifted a smooth flag and then saw a long pointed rock. They tried to lift it but all their efforts were in vain. Then they knocked the point of the rock. It began to shiver and though they were much afraid they kept on working. However they could not lift the rock.
