Oh, I once knew a lass, & her name it was Nell,
She lived in the house with her granny full well,
The house it was small, & the window was less,
It had but two panes, ay, & one wanted glass,

The lovelied window, that ever you saw.Now it happened one n ight, Granny went to her bed
And Johnny the stoutest true _ love poor Nelly had,
Tript over the hills his true - love to see,
And right at the window, there planted was he.

"Oh, I'm going, dear Grannie, "Said Nellie in pain,
"Fare-you-well, my dear John, Come the next night again,
