  1. In the time of the famine the poor people had to build houses made of mud and live in them. In the County Clare the roofs were made of mud and reed; the doors were so low that that the people used have to crawl in and out and there were no windows in them.
    In the mud houses the beds were placed near the fire. The fire places were placed at the gable wall in the mud houses. The front of the chimneys were made of clay and wattles
