  1. A very peculiar man used to travel through this part of the country long ago. His name was Stephen Deery. He was very small, and used to wear seven hats, and he always had a dirty face, and hands. Stephen had the name of having lots of money. He used to carry tin canisters on the tail of his coat, and it was alleged that he used to carry his money in them.
He got married to Biddy Huroo, who used also travel the country, but the day he got married, his wife took the money from him, and left him. She said, she would keep the money better than what he could. Biddy never went back to Stephen, so he could be heard crying all over the country. Stephen used to go into a different house each night at bedtime, but nobody wanted to keep him as he was very dirty.
