  1. Some fifty years ago a man in Aghowle Co Wicklow found that his cows were not giving as much milk as one would expect from them. He tried various remedies but they were no use. He consulted a "fairy woman" (a wise old woman). She told him to watch his field in the early morning and he would find out the reason. He did so and was surprised to see a hare sucking his cows. He got two greyhounds the following day and went to the field. He surprised the hare and the hounds gave chase. In the turning which followed one
