  1. Historic 27.
    Castle of Clerihan - Beside the old road from Darcy's Cross, east of Clerihan (Old) Church are what seem to be ruined ramparts of a castle-bailey or enclosure. These remains are close to the road and paralle thereto.
    For convenience the Normans often built their castles close to Churches and besides this there was the tactical reason that such propinquity would serve to protect the Norman congregation and would obviate the danger of hostile ambush inherent in a long journey to the Church.
