    (1) On St. Bridget's Day a cross is made out of rushes. On St. Bridget's Eve a ribbon is hung out on the bushes and kept as a cure for head ache.
    (2) On St. Patrick's Day a cross is made out of cardboard.
    (3) A square made of straw, called Bacbaide is put in the thatch as a preventative against burning.
    (4) St. Martin's Day (Nov. 11th.) He was an uncle of St. Patrick. There was a poor man with 1 sone and wife. They were fattening a pig and promised St. Martin to kill it at Martinmas. Running short of food, they were going to kill it before the time promised, but were called by a voice in the night, which said you promised to kill the Porcán Breac in honour of St. Martin and if you dont, I'll kill your son Joe. So they killed a fowl and sprinkled the door outside with the blood in honour of the saint.
    (5) It is considered unlucky to take down the Xmas decoration until after [?] Xmas Day.
