St. Bridgets Cross is made of rushes. Begun in the centre in form of square and worked outwards. Made by the man of the house on St. Bridget's Eve and placed in the thatch, as a preventive against burning.
Palm is placed behind holy pictures when brought home on Palm Sunday, also placed in cow-houses to prevent fire.
The house is decorated at Xmas with holly and not taken down until after the 12th day Jan. 6th If taken down before that date considered unlucky.
A ribbon is hung out on the bushes on St. Bridget's Eve and kept afterwards as a cure for headache.
Outside the present church of Clerihan is the tomb of Dr. Howley P.P. Clerihan 1798 to 1825. People used to take the clay around the tomb and boil it in new milk and drink it. Supposed to cure anything.
