- There is a story told about two giant huge stones. Each would weigh about a hundred tons. Those stones were in the Nire district. They are supposed to be brought there by a Giant when given a hop, step and a jump from the Knockmealdown mountains across to the Comeragh mountains. It is supposed that he had a stone on each of his hands, when he landed in the comeragh mountains he threw the stone backwards. He cut a channel through the Comeragh mountains with his heels. His name was Fionn. There is a place up in Tipperary called the Devil's bit. It is supposed that a Devil was passing there and he took a bite out of the hill.
