    The old name for the townland in which our school is situated is " Cornapaste " OR in Irish " Cor na Péiste " which in English literally means "The Worm Ditch" - one of Ireland's most historic landmarks. "The Black Pig's Race" and "Dane's Cast" are names given to this land-mark in other localities.
    Our parish of Currin contains within its boundaries the best preserved remains of this landmark. It is first found in this parish running through the townlands of Mullyanly (?) and Cornapaste; but only very faint traces of it remain here and according to local tradition LAUREL HILL SCHOOL-HOUSE (the present name applied to the school and townland once known as Cornapaste) stands on what was once portion of the "the Worm Ditch".
    After it had wound its rather torturous way (course) across the hills of Annagheane, it entered Drumcor Lake, a fairly extensive sheet of water which lies between Cavan and Monaghan, and thence proceeded through Callow-hill (Coll-Coill - a hazel wood). Very little remains of it can be traced in Callowhill, it having long ago been levelled by the people of the last century, who breaking away from the Gaelic tradition of looking upon such
