  1. About a mile from the school there is a forge and it belongs to Tom Smyth. This trade was in the family for generations.
    This is the description of the forge out side. It is a middle size house and there is a window on the front and the roof is a felt one and it also has a long chimney. Out side on the street there are a lot of old ploughs, broken carts, shoeings of carts - pieces of irons and cart wheels.
    This is the description of the forge inside. The walls are a black colour and they are made of stone. Part of the floor is made of wood and this is where the horses stand when they are getting shod. The anvil sits on a stump of a tree and the fire is raised a little piece off the ground and he burns coal. At the side of the window there is a bench and we find a large number of tools on it. One the walls there are pegs and we find horse's shoes hanging on them.
