  1. One night about sixty years ago a great lightning storm arose. There was an old man and an old woman in Roxtown near Balla. They had no stock but a dog and an ass. The ass was tied at the back door and the dog was lying on the hearth. The lightning came down the chimney and it boared a big hole in the hearth. It killed the dog on the hearth and the ass at the door. It set the house on fire. The neighbours gathered and quenched the house. They found the old man and woman in the kitchen but they were alive.
