- The most useful herbs growing at home are garlic water cress white lily comfrey and chicken weed. Garlic is used for pains in the stomach it is boiled in water and drunk. Others eat it raw to keep away fever. Water cress is eaten raw with salt. It grows along streams(continues on next page)
