    Glenmalure is probably the most historic place in the county. It is nine miles from Rathdrum and six from Glendalough by the old military road...

    He was not one to trifle with - this gallant Geraldine who had so often played with death and who had written history wide over Leinster with his sword already. Time and again he tried to pierce the night's gloom in seach of a light that would tell of some human habitation where he might get his wound dressed - the flow of blood staunched - else he might bleed to death alone in these desolate wilds. But his sight was becoming dimmed from sheer weakness. Not a light to indicate the whereabouts of a homestead upon that dreary waste of seemingly limitless dimensions. He must of sheer necessity ride onward though every movement of his horse caused him intense suffering.
    What if the noble animal should lose his way amid these trackless hills or stumble over some dreadful precipice. There were many such places among these Wicklopw Hills. He had heard as much from the clansmen riders of these places. Similar disasters had overtaken lonely night riders in this wild region ere now
