Strong men in the bloom of manhood had been said to wither away and perish in this barren altitude, their bones alone left to tell the tale for the eagles of Glenmullen soared over these wild hills with the first rays of dawn. Musing thus he gained the crest of the mountain for though he could see but little he was however conscious of moving over more level surface, and presently some lights scattered here and there - seemed to flicker in the dim distance. Could it be Glenmalure !!!If only he could reach that haven of refuge before his ebbing strength gave out. Anon he began a steep almost precipitous descent and the motion of this trusty horse as the latter slid downwards and regained his balance time and again hurt him exceedingly. It was not easy riding that perilous descent with that deadly and numbing pain.
