- 3-2-38It is about eighty years since the national schools began. Before that, teachers used to go from house to house, teaching. The children used to be taught arithmetic, algebra, reading, geography and composition. The children used to write with a goose quill. They also used to write with slate pencils on slates. There are no ruins of any schools round this part of the district. There is one old national school situated in Ballyforan. It was built by Mr. Talbot. It is situated near the chapel.
