  1. In years gone by the people did their own curing of ailments. Some people used to cure styes by getting ten goose-berry thorns and make the sign of the cross over the eye every Monday, Wednesday and Friday nine mornings and then throw the tenth thorn in the fire.
    Long ago people used to cut a slice of bacon and hide it in the manure heap and tell no on and when it was rotten it was used for curing warts.
