- There were no roads in Ireland long ago. There is a road in every district now. Long ago there were paths where the roads are now. When the roads were being made at first there were only four made. They started at Tara. One road was going north, one south, one east, and one west. then roads were made from these four. Now the country is covered with them. The government pays men to keep them in good order.
