- In Ireland in the years gone by, when the people had no trains or buses, the only way they had of getting around was by walking. They thought nothing of walking eight or ten miles a day, to Mass, or to the town, although they went to the town very seldom. They produced everything they wanted.
They got their own milk, made their own butter and cheese, grew wheat, ground their flour and made their own bread, and so they had no need to go to the town.
