The cows are kept in a shed called a cowhouse, byre, and some call it the cró Cows are tied by means of a
rope fastened round the neck. This stong
rope is tied on to a chain, at the end of which is a large round iron ring this ring is put in a stake set firmly in the ground. The
rope is sometimes tied round the cows' horns, but cows are never tied by the leg. The tying are always bought in the shop, and the farmer makes the loops etc. A branch is never hung in the cowhouse, but sometimes a horse-shoe is hung at the back of the door to bring luck to the stock. People always bless themselves before commencing to milk the cow. A cross cow is tied. A "spanshel" is made thus A strong piece of
