farm yards built and gave the ranches and houses thereon over to Protestant tenants . In many instances Scotch Protestants.
Allen Pollok and wife being, themselves Scotch. This fact accounts for so many Scotch Protestants becoming owners of large Ranches of land in this part of Connaught. We often hear mentioned the 'Scotch Settlement.'
It is told the wife of Allen Pollok did not take kindly to the Irish -she encouraged evictions -saying "If she owned all the lands of Ireland, they would not make a Property much bigger than a good 'Cabbage garden'."
This criticism and her many cutting expressions regarding the Irish are still spoken of by the present generation in 1937. Consequently, Allen Pollok and his wife became very unpopular.
