- One night a number of neighbours were visiting in our house and they were talking of Hidden Treasure. They said that when the Danes were in Ireland they robbed a church and took the gold chalices and other gold vessels. They put them in a large trunk and put the trunk in a large river about a mile and a half east of my house. Some years ago a diver went to the bottom of the river, he got the trunk of gold alright. He tied it on to a strong chain, but when he had it half way up, a big black snake jumped up and bit the chain and the trunk fell to the bottom of the river again. The snake then told the man not to come for that gold again, but he said some one would be passing by and he would see the trunk floating on the top of the water and that person would get it and it could not be got until then.
